Priceless professional experiences for our students, AMOS London

An american sporting event in London

From the 2nd to the 4th of December, Position Sports, in partnership with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (NMBHF) organised 6 games at the Cooper Box arena and at the O2 arena, here in London.

Bringing four Division I college teams, the NMBHF event provides basketball fans with a chance to see some of the USA’s brightest prospects in action. It was the first time in history for such games to happen in London.

Our London Lab leading the way

Armand Ronvel, who is in charge of our Lab in London was volunteering for the full weekend as well as managing the recruitment of other volunteers (other European Bachelor Sport Marketing and Event Management and Global Sport Sport Business Master students were working for at least one day on this event).

The students oversaw a wide range of missions during those 3 days: registration, general operations, assisting with media credentials and with back-of-house operations, and finally helped execute our concourse activation which consisted of setting up an area with basketball hoops and pop-a-shot to provide consumer engagement.

As part of their class (consumer market research module), the Global Sport Business Master students created a survey to get data about the fan experience. The Bachelor students were assigned to collecting answers to a survey outside the venue when the game was finished.

Over 200 surveys were collected, which will provide the organizations with valuable insights to create an even better event in the years to come.

Result of the event

The initial forecast to sell 5,000 tickets was easily reached as they ended up selling more than 10,000, which is very impressive for a first edition!

The importance of professional experiences for our students

At AMOS, we know that providing students with event/workplace experience is crucial as it complements academic knowledge.

Therefore, experiences like this are priceless, offering the chance to work in a modern venue for 3 international sports organizations, networking with some outstanding individuals, and developing their business awareness and their events and communications skillset will give them an edge when they look for their first job.

At last, it provides them with a taste of what the second year of Global Sport Business Master will be like, as they will start to study the American Sports Market.
